“Waxnifique” N° KS-004

10 × 10 cm Kinusaiga textile picture of a butterfly: black body, wax-print wings with purple, turquoise, black and white patterns, on a purple background, with two small gold rivets at the tips of the antennae, edged with sky-blue bias tape.

"Intuitions" Range / Theme Nature A graphic butterfly, nothing twee about it. A small picture in purple, black, white and turquoise, with wax-print wings, that brings colour wherever it lands.

Its story

A butterfly, yes, but not a twee one. Wax-print wings with bold graphic patterns, a deep purple, two little gold rivets at the tips of the antennae... And a 10 × 10 cm format that fits anywhere: on a shelf, a desk, a bit of wall that needs some colour.

For you if you love butterflies without the soppy side. Or as a gift, for someone who has everything... except a one-of-a-kind piece with a story 😉

Speaking of which, the wax has one. It's the offcuts from a custom order: a client wanted my Vagabondages shoulder bag (“Exoplanet”, “C'est ASSE(z), 2” and “Atypie”) in her own colours, and I spent two hours in a fabric shop sending her photos of every possible print until she fell for this one.

It's also the very first butterfly. I designed it to be recognisable and simple enough for a first picture: it might well join the Discovery Kit one day. You'd have the original.

And if it's the technique that caught your eye: Kinusaiga can be learned.
At home with the Discovery Kit (instructions in French; Neptune, Cosmos or Macareux for now), or with me in a workshop.

Near Perfect?

Slightly reduced price (originally €49): this is the first butterfly I made, and one small piece of fabric isn't perfectly tucked into its groove (visible in the close-up). Purely cosmetic.

Common questions

What is a Kinusaiga textile panel?

Kinusaiga is a Japanese craft technique that involves creating panels by tucking pieces of fabric into grooves cut into polystyrene, mounted on a wooden backing.

The result looks like a fabric stained glass window: crisp, graphic shapes, vivid colours, subtle relief, and the living texture of real textile on top of it all.

For you, it's a way to transform your sentimental fabrics into a genuine work of art to hang on your wall: a babywearing wrap, a scarf, a childhood fabric... cut, rearranged, framed. The textile is no longer tucked away in a cupboard: it's displayed, celebrated.

Would you rather be guided? I also run small-group workshops (six people maximum, 2.5 hours, €40 per person, snack on the house), with ready-made patterns or your own fabric. All the details and next dates on kinusaiga-sentimental.fr.

I offer fully bespoke Kinusaiga panels: pattern, size, colour palette, fabric layout, everything is decided together. If this idea speaks to you, let's talk it through during a discovery call.

Charlotte’s baby wrap

After ordering a bag from stock, Charlotte realized it would be too small. I offered to make her a custom, larger version, and she sent me her baby wrap to transform.
