Artistic Leatherwork... and political
Art is always political.
During this #salesconnes period, I wanted to "pay tribute" to the woman who vomited her uninhibited racism on my stand at the Carrousel des Métiers d'Art in Paris…
After berating me for putting breasts (and buttocks, imagine 😱) on a bag and calling it "sexist"…
She hinted that "soon you'll see nothing but them" because "they're everywhere" (copyright Marine) — because one of my bags has "black*" skin…
So, what better way to introduce these 3 deeply political and militant pieces than a wink at the terrible postcards of the 80s?
👙 « Summer Body » denounces the injunctions placed on women's bodies.
🎀 « Octobre Rose - Redux » honours my sister and all women facing the crab.
🌍 « Origines » because you can't talk about women's bodies without talking about the cradle of humanity — and five minutes of ethnocentrism is quite enough…
Political because beyond my bespoke service, I make Art through my spontaneous pieces… and Art is always political.
Beyond the statements, the simple act of making beautiful things for beauty's sake is itself a political act.
I say it again:
Here, I do not tolerate racism, sexism, gender-based violence, incels, or bitter people of any stripe.
There are plenty of people to sell you cheap bags, all alike, most often made any old how with shoddy materials…
In short: created and produced without soul, without friction, without snags.
Easy.
That won't be the case here 🤷🏻♀️

(* I hesitated for a long time, and then spent a lot of time searching for a shade that wouldn't look like blackface and wouldn't be caricatural… I hope I got it right.)
